Cockpit Arts/Greater Area of London NADFAS Award 2016-17
Mariano was the proud recipient of the Cockpit Arts/Greater Area of London NADFAS Award in September 2016, which enabled him to set up his own London-based studio.
This award focuses on supporting and protecting crafts that are at risk of dying out. The tradition of handmade bespoke shoes is an ancient craft, which is practiced by very few artisans. Mariano is passionate about preserving this old craft and ensuring that the techniques, skills and knowledge continue to be passed on.
NADFAS (National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts) formed in 1968, becoming a registered charity in the 1970s. In 2017, NADFAS was renamed The Art Society. Today, they are a leading arts education charity with a global network, which aims to bring people together through a shared curiosity of the arts.
